Day 17 - 23/Jan/24 - At Sea to Puerto Madryn, Argentina
We're now on our next to last sea day before the end of this cruise. It was a full day starting at 9am with a coffee chat with two members of the Antarctic Expedition. The third member of the team, Dr. Ed, was ill. It was interesting but not a lot of new information. Graeme Ayers from the team presented a talk on the Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition. Interestingly, he was introduced by one of his adult daughters who traveling on the voyage with him.
Captain Kevin Beirnaert then did an ASK THE CAPTAIN session. His personal bio was the most interesting part of the presentation before he took questions. He's the youngest captain in the fleet at age 44, and he joked that there is a "learner" sign on the stern of the ship! Throughout the session he demonstrated how good of a commedian he was. For all of these morning sessions, the auditorium was completely full with the session being live streamed to the Rolling Stone Lounge.
After a quick lunch where there was a nice cake offering, Ed presented port talks on Punta del Este and Montevideo,Uruguay. We took the rest of the afternoon off and I caught up on my YouTube videos and created my blog entry for our visit yesterday in Port Stanley. It was an enjoyable one to write with lots of detail and recommendations for future visitors there.
The Company Men performed on the Main Stage and we like this set better than the first one. Their theme was Motown. Afterwards we listened to the Adam in Billboard Onboard sing and play Piano Greats in the first set and all Elton John songs including a number of them that I had never heard before. He was very good once again.
Before bed, we checked out the aft deck on deck 9, and it seemed weird that it was over 60ºf. It was quite overcast so we couldn't see the stars. Tomorrow we have a penguin excursion and the temperatures are projected to be in the high 70's.
